Baller Stevie Boy Posted June 2, 2014 Baller Share Posted June 2, 2014 I just know I am going to get some Flac, because I know people ski differently, but here we go, 34MPH Big Dawgs, generally what is the most popular Zero Off Setting ? Any explanation would be appreciated, I have been skiing on A2, but it seems hard work, I was talking to my ski buddy and we came to the conclusion that C1 might be good, he gave it a go and immediately stated that he did not have to work so hard, I am waiting for some of the layers of skin to replenish on my hand, before I give it a try. Baller liquid d Posted June 2, 2014 Baller Share Posted June 2, 2014 ...the answer is "it's all over the deck". There is no right or wrong, it's trial an error. You can use just about any setting and get close to the same results, BUT, you will be changing your ski setup to counter (if that's the right word) the system/boat. I think some of it has to do with your particular style and then adjust the ski to make that setting feel the best for you.
Baller_ Wish Posted June 2, 2014 Baller_ Share Posted June 2, 2014 Was told to use the B setting because they were like my PP. Struggled for two years in tournaments with B. Almost quit tournaments all together. Got a chance to spend a week @MS and their club boat with ZO. Went through every letter and number and landed on C1. But, that's because it fit me. No idea if there is a consensus among BigDawgs but I bet there would be a consensus among them saying ....you should try them all and find the one that fits you. Baller ryno65 Posted June 2, 2014 Baller Share Posted June 2, 2014 try the '+' setting. If you don't have Revision R, get it ! It may not be what you settle on, but it gives you more options. & don't over-think it when testing.
Baller ForrestGump Posted June 2, 2014 Baller Share Posted June 2, 2014 A few years back, Roger or Jody kept a list of what the Big Dawg skiers used at one of the tournaments. It was all over the board. No meaningful data there.
Baller GOODESkier Posted June 2, 2014 Baller Share Posted June 2, 2014 My suggestion is, get with a top end skier/driver somehow. Someone that can observe how you are skiing, understands the way the ABC123+ all works and how the reaction is applied to the boat from the skier. It will be the BEST TIME AND MONEY SPENT! @TeamWally helped me find and settle on C1+ I actually fought with him about the (+) and how it would be useless for a 180 lbs. hack like myself............... Then Paul Donnatt at Imperial Lakes pulled me with the plus and my gates got WAY BETTER. So they were both RIGHT. Find some help and let people who know, help you dial in your setting by watching and aboserving and trying different settings. It will make skiing SO MUCH MORE FUN! ALL OF MY recent 38's have been run with C1+ (All 3 of them......)

Baller ForrestGump Posted June 2, 2014 Baller Share Posted June 2, 2014 Yep. I've used C1 on everything for the last 3 years. I like B2 behind the new Pro Star much better.
Baller GOODESkier Posted June 2, 2014 Baller Share Posted June 2, 2014 Agree with @Horton but until you settle on a setting with your practice boat at home, it is pointless to chase numbers on other boats. Get dialed in on one boat and then start rolling the dice for other boats.
Baller Ed_Johnson Posted June 2, 2014 Baller Share Posted June 2, 2014 Back in early 09, when I switched from PP to ZO, I skied with Andy Mapple to get a better understanding of it...Andy had me on C2 and it worked great..In 2010 I sold my 196 and got a CC200 with the 409. Since it had a stronger pull I settled on C1, and used C2 behind boats with smaller engines...That worked great until Rev R came out with the Plus system..I have to say I "LOVE" the plus system...It's like having your own afterburner...It was to strong in the C positions and made me fast into the ball, however, in B2+, it was like a miracle drug...Plus,(no pun intended), worked great behind every boat I skied behind...It is also the default setting, so I never have to touch ZO after startup. Baller Stevie Boy Posted June 2, 2014 Author Baller Share Posted June 2, 2014 I always skied B2 because it was in the middle, went to orlando, skied behind a very powerful petrol 200 with lots of horsepower, jump boat, they had me skiing quite well on A1, when I went back to the UK, I ski behind Gas 200 approximately 70-90 horepower less, I do not think the Gas is as responsive, because of the way the fuel burns, anyway it's not feeling anywhere near as good, I have managed to ween myself off of fin fiddling, looks like it might be Zero Off experimentation, instead LOL ! Baller liquid d Posted June 2, 2014 Baller Share Posted June 2, 2014 What's so awesome is that it's different from boat to boat and even engines, altitudes/etc...I love to figure it out when I switch boats or locations. This sport would be too friggin easy it wouldn't even be worth your time if you didn't have that fun!
Baller MattP Posted June 2, 2014 Baller Share Posted June 2, 2014 @liquid d the fun is skiing not messing with settings it's buoy chasing. We need to limit the variables that limit buoy count.
kstateskier
I prefer B1 but I am neither Big nor a Dawg.
Baller Than_Bogan Posted June 2, 2014 Baller Share Posted June 2, 2014 @MattP Even though I'm 95% sure liquid d was being sarcastic, I so much agree with your sentiment that I had to give you a like anyhow. I continue to believe that the parameters are just like most of the parameters that I introduce at my job: they relate to an algorithmic weakness. Over time, algorithms tend to get better and parameters that have no direct relation to anything measurable, tend to go away. Someday...
