Administrators Horton Posted May 11, 2014 Administrators Share Posted May 11, 2014 This spring as not really been the best for consistent skiing. The new lake place, a pregnant wife and other distractions have taken a toll on my consistency and rhythm. This is a real problem when I am doing a ski test. I have to be on my game to really judge and evaluate a ski. It also basically sucks to ski below your normal level. So how to shake off the stink? For me it is all about running a lot of passes at a line length that I never miss but that is hard enough that I have to pay attention. For me that is 32 off. This week I took 3 or 4 sets where all I did was run the best 32s I could. Yesterday I shortened to 35 and the first few were shaky but by this morning I was back to running 35s the way I want. The point is when things go sideways and you feel like crap out there back it off and reset. Baller GaryWilkinson Posted May 11, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 11, 2014 Could also be totally new surroundings, new water and family issues on the brain. All combined losing 6 buoys understandable. Don't beat yourself up, but I'm glad you found a way out of the funk. Me?, sometimes even dialling down doesn't help. Maybe I'm not dialling down far enough! Administrators Horton Posted May 11, 2014 Author Administrators Share Posted May 11, 2014 @GaryWilkinson when you dial back you also need to knew what is wrong and how to fix it. When thing go side ways I always go back to the same fundamentals that work for me. Baller GOODESkier Posted May 11, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 11, 2014 @Horton wait until you have a 5 and 3 year old in the boat. Your wife driving. Toys flying out of the boat at 35' OFF. That will help you "reset". Only 5 years down the road for ya! Like Parrish saying his dad shot at him with a paint ball gun while he was skiing......... really similar, you'll see. Glad your on your game again.
Baller Texas6 Posted May 12, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 12, 2014 I agree with this Horton, and I do the same thing. But sometimes I also have to resist the urge of adding rope back in too frequently because I feel like I need to be absolutely perfect to shorten. Another thing that really seems to help me when I slump is video. A slow motion playback can be a real eye opener
