Baller chris_logan Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 6, 2014 Ok Ballers, I need some good ideas for my groom's cake. I had the thought of maybe a ski boat cake, a ski lake cake, a cake that looks like a ski, etc. Post some good ideas and definitely any pictures of some you have seen in the past would be awesome! Members SkiJay
@chris_logan How about the top third of a turn ball (orange icing can't be hard to find) on a platter covered with very light blue icing.
Baller MrJones Posted May 6, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 6, 2014 It was before digital pics, but mine was a full size chocolate slalom with actual bindings on it. (Couldn't eat those Wiley's) It tasted way better than the wedding cake btw.
webbdawg99
My only advice @chris_logan is to not use fondant. It looks cool....but tastes like crap. And all most people care about is how it tastes!
Craig
I will second what @webbdawg99 said, fondant is nasty. A ski or boat cake would be neat (I am not very creative). I would also add the following: http://cdn.cakecentral.com/d/d6/900x900px-LL-d6d624b3_gallery7249871257891356.jpeg http://www.yenerscakes.com.au/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/img_3628.jpg Also, do not forget: http://cf.chucklesnetwork.com/items/8/1/0/8/5/original/eat-all-the-cake.jpg

Baller Than_Bogan Posted May 9, 2014 Baller Share Posted May 9, 2014 Am I the only one who's never heard of a Groom's Cake?
Baller chris_logan Posted May 9, 2014 Author Baller Share Posted May 9, 2014 @Than_Bogan, I really wasn't going to have one until my mother insisted and then started telling me what it would be. I then decided I had better take the reins on design and substance or there was no telling what I would end up with. @webbdawg99 The lady who will be making the cake (as well as wedding cake) is ultra good at what she does. I have had many of her cakes, some of which included fondant, and they all were amazing. She is the type that perfects taste first, then worries about what it looks like. I am shying away from using fondant though, so we should be ok. Thank you all for the ideas and pictures! Keep them coming!
Craig
@Than_Bogan, it is a southern tradition; A cake to reflect the grooms interests. I am from the Midwest and was married in the South, I was also confused by the term when my wife and I were wedding planning.
Members bbirlew
@Than_Bogan, I'm in the same boat as you. (Pun intended?) However... I did make sure my wife new about my plans for a pre-wedding ski with my buds the morning of! THAT is our tradition up north! (Or maybe it's just me!)
