Mikl525
Hey all, Just picked up a new trick ski and not sure what angle to set the rear kicker? The ski that I have used in the past was set up so no thought required, is there a rule of thumb or baseline to start from? Thanks.
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted April 21, 2014 Baller_ Share Posted April 21, 2014 @Mikl525 Did you get the Masterline / Quantum rear toe plate? The ski should have inserts for the rear, install the rear where it is comfortable for you. Really no rule or baseline on a trick ski rear toe. Front plate is another story. Stephen skis a 44" Quantum but he utilizes full high wraps front and rear. I can take a measurement if you like.
Mikl525
Hey Jody, Yeah I picked up the masterline toe plate as well, just wasn't how much angle to put on it. I bought a 43". Would be happy to hear the set up, thanks.
GAJ0004
Start at 45 degrees. Ride the ski without the rear binding for a while and watch were your foot ends up, and install it as close to that as possible.

Baller eleeski Posted April 23, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 23, 2014 I believe that the Quantum has inserts for the rear toe plate. Just mount the binding in the middle of the adjustments on the plate. 45 degrees? Ski it and remount if it doesn't feel right. There might be two sets of inserts. Some like the feet close together, some like a wider separation (like me). It's easy to try both. One mod I always perform is to remove the overlay. The rear toe kicker is more comfortable, allows more movement and is easier to place your foot exactly right. Certain high level skiers like Stephen have different preferences but a developing skier probably doesn't need to be locked in. A heel strap works for Kirk but I use a cut down toe piece for even less support. Personal preference - experiment. Eric
Mikl525
Hey Eric thanks for the feedback. The rear kicker has 3 different inserts and i used the middle one. I was also curious about the front binding mounts as well - it has 2 inserts, ill try it today with binding in the front holes and see how it feels, by just looking at it the extra space between the binding looks like it will be more comfortable. I have been skiing on a Wing trick ski which has the rear binding on an extreme angle in relation to where I can get the quantum set up, and liking less angle so far. I've just put a large kicker on the ski as I tried a medium but couldn't get my foot into it properly.
