Baller swaterkd Posted April 16, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 16, 2014 will the wakeye Iphone 5s adapter fit with a otter box on or do you need to remove it. Is there a better option?
Members SkiJay
@swaterkd You are on the right track trying to protect your iPhone, but respectfully, a better option is a cheap used GoPro Hero 2. The pylon shakes so violently when (not if) the handle gets popped, I've had to remove the battery from GoPros to reset them—and they are built for abuse. I've seen water splashed on them, people hit them with their skies, and grab them while reaching instinctively for the pylon. Do you really want this life for your iPhone 5s? Baller swaterkd Posted April 16, 2014 Author Baller Share Posted April 16, 2014 thanks for the input I was trying to use the new app. Anyone else have input on the app and how is works?
Baller MattP Posted April 16, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 16, 2014 @swaterkd I have been using the new app with great results. I have a review in the works as we speak. I want to get another set or 2 behind it before I publish.
Baller Wish Posted April 17, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 17, 2014 Was very excited about the Wakeye app for my iPad use on my tracking mount until I realized it requires location GPS type points for speed (aka has to be wifi or on a paid phone type network). Would love to see them use another type of indicator such as dB for record/stop with the option to increase or decrease those levels. Inside noise hits that certain set decibel, say 60dB and it starts to record. dB drops below set dB and it stops recording. Would it be that hard to add additional set perimeters in an app like that @MattP? The recording would be a bit longer then then a set speed but well worth not having to find the record/stop button when your the driver not to mentions sun glare. Baller MattP Posted April 17, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 17, 2014 @Wish off of the top of my head prob not I would have to look at the specs of the mic feature.
Baller disland Posted April 17, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 17, 2014 @wish Thanks for pointing this out. I was planning to use an old iPhone4 but I am not going to get a cell phone plan just for this. no way am I using my new iPhone 5 for this. I have a general rule if you bring phones into boats its not if your phone will end up in the lake but when.
Baller swaterkd Posted April 17, 2014 Author Baller Share Posted April 17, 2014 Ok, so put a waterproof case on the phone. So has anyone had a phone fall out of the wakeye?
Porkfight
It would be pretty cool if the app could start and stop recording based on G forces sensed by the device's motion sensor. If that were possible, it wouldn't require a cellular plan or GPS.
AKShortline
I got to use my new wakeye mount with ipad mini and it works really well. You do not need the idevice subscribed to a cell service for the app to work. It turns on and off based on speed very well. Just set it up and leave it alone. The problem now is at the end of the day, you might have more videos than you wanted... Delete, delete, delete...
skier2788
@AKShortline were you on a WiFi network for the app to work? I was thinking of using an old iPhone 4 but after reading this didn't think the wakeye app would work.

Baller Jibbo Posted April 30, 2014 Baller Share Posted April 30, 2014 The Wakeye app only needs GPS for it to work
coxjon
Anyone know if there are big differences. Between the wakeye and ski-doc ? http://www.perfski.com/Waterskis/Waterski-Accessories/Ski-Doc-Camera-Mount.html
AKShortline
@skier 2788 I was not. Should work fine with your old phone. @coxjon I tried the ski-doc and could not get it to turn smoothly enough to work. It seems like others have had better luck though.
