xrated
Ordering a new handle on Monday and the only thing to decide is 1" or .94". Is there any real difference in that .06"? I assume it is all personal choice but I really don't know which I would like more.
oldjeep
I can feel it. I run the fattest one that radar sells. 1.1. Otherwise it feels like my fingers dig into my palm
Members nate93
Smaller handles will also add to elbow pain. .06 is a huge change!
Baller rockdog Posted March 23, 2014 Baller Share Posted March 23, 2014 I recently went to .940 Radar and wish I didn't, too thin. Stick with 1" or slightly larger I think. Of course depends on your hand/finger size.
Baller ral Posted March 23, 2014 Baller Share Posted March 23, 2014 Have used 1.08, 1.092 and 1.1 , and I do not feel a big difference. Different brands, though, so do not know if they are really 100% comparable. Skiers that grip with fingers tend to like thinner, with palms, thicker, how thin or thick is personal matter I guess. Baller Kelvin Posted March 23, 2014 Baller Share Posted March 23, 2014 Like most, I used something close to 1.00 for 20+ years and continually had calluses to prove it. After spending some time with Chet Raley, he uses a 1.183 from ML. At first, it felt like holding a club, but after a couple of seasons, I don't need liners under my gloves and the calluses are in check. I highly recommend trying it. As an interim step, try a 1.
Members SkiJay
I think you CAN go too small. I used .94" for five years. When I started getting deeper into -35, the handle started hurting my fingers. I've been through the whole range of sizes since then and settled on quite a bit bigger (1.062"). Too small got distracting.
xrated
Thanks guys. Think I will order the 1" and see. I've been using a variety of handles depending on where I am skiing, but as I keep thinking about taking it more serious I know I need to pick one handle and bring it to whatever boat I am behind. Always felt most comfortable with an old Straight line but I don't know the diameter off hand. I do notice that some buddies I don't mind the handle and others I can't not think about it. klindy
I'd recommend using two sizes. Say 1" and a 1.10" (or whatever). Interchange every few sets and it seems to prevent a lot of elbow and forearm soreness. I refer a 1" handle so I generally use it for tournaments. Chef23
I use clinchers and a little bit smaller handle is better with those. I am using a 1.0. I went to a 1.062 at one point and it actually bothered my elbow which I know is the opposite of what most people say.

Razorskier1
Depends on where you hold your handle. I try to keep it out in my fingers and use 1.03. Tried smaller and it didn't work. Tried bigger and it didn't work.
