Baller_ Wish Posted January 9, 2014 Baller_ Share Posted January 9, 2014 @MISkier There is a site like that just north of West Palm Beach. Cannot remember the name but I know it starts with "P". 4 lakes making a square and one in the center but no canals connecting them. Thinking the original intent was not ski lakes as a couple may not even be big enough. Couple houses on from what I can see. 27° 8'6.38"N 80°18'47.27"W
Baller MISkier Posted January 9, 2014 Baller Share Posted January 9, 2014 That's Pentalago. It's similar in layout. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller MISkier Posted January 9, 2014 Baller Share Posted January 9, 2014 @Wish, it looked something like this. Apologies for the crude rendering, but you get the idea. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller_ Wish Posted January 9, 2014 Baller_ Share Posted January 9, 2014 @MISkier ya that's it. And I like your rendering. http://www.pentalago.com/siteplan.html
Baller MISkier Posted January 9, 2014 Baller Share Posted January 9, 2014 I like that Pentalago plan. I've recently come to the conclusion that I live in the wrong state. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller 6balls Posted January 9, 2014 Baller Share Posted January 9, 2014 Just give me wind protection from virtually all directions and a great climate. No desire to take my skiing indoors.
Baller ozski Posted January 9, 2014 Baller Share Posted January 9, 2014 Plant the seed in Dubai and it will probably grow.
Baller A_B Posted January 9, 2014 Baller Share Posted January 9, 2014 Build next to a power plant so heated waste water could be used. We have that in Lake Erie. Just hard to get to when everything else is froze.
drewski
@skier2788 Start at about 2:45 to get the jist of it. Pretty neat - using the cave to wakeboard in.
Baller swc5150 Posted January 9, 2014 Baller Share Posted January 9, 2014 A local tavern owner I know put up an inflatable dome to house a few beach volleyball courts for winter use. It's not remotely big enough for a lake, and it set him back a $1million.
gpcarson
I have thought about this before and what might be more cost effective. My thought is to excavate a lake and use all of the fill to build a high berm on one side and a short berm on the other side. Then use cables with one end anchored at the top of each berm to go across the lake and spaced as needed. This would make a "lean to" type frame and then cover it with fabric. It might be less expensive than a steel framed structure.
Baller skier2788 Posted January 10, 2014 Baller Share Posted January 10, 2014 @ drewski that's what I am talking about. Would be awesome.
gpcarson
The construction installation cost would also be less expensive because you wouldn't need a crane to set the steel and material delivery would be less expensive.
Jdubs
I don't really need a roof, just a big ole heater and walls for wind protection.
Baller Mateo_Vargas Posted January 11, 2014 Baller Share Posted January 11, 2014 As @crashman mentioned earlier I too am entrigued of the idea of moving the water and keeping the skier stationary. This would require less water area so it could fit in arenas, stadiums or the parking lot at the boat show. Drop the hull of the sponsoring ski boat in front of the skier to make the wake and likewise for wake boarding. Maybe even some new events could be created like water skier cross. What happens after the skier let's go would also be entertaining.
Baller MattP Posted January 11, 2014 Baller Share Posted January 11, 2014 @crashman I have thought about this idea a bit after watching the flow board world championships on TV.
