oldjeep
Curious, for those of you who have purchased new boats in the last year or so (non promo) Do the numbers that this site is coming up with seem reasonable? For one of the boats I'm looking at, it is showing around a 37K invoice on a 47K boat. Just starting to do my research if we wind up going new rather than used. http://www.seedealercost.com/
Baller ToddL Posted December 20, 2013 Baller Share Posted December 20, 2013 Once you add in a few options (trailer, ZO, maybe an engine upgrade), those dealer cost prices jump up about $10k or so...
oldjeep
Luckily the one I'm looking at comes standard with a trailer.
Baller swc5150 Posted December 20, 2013 Baller Share Posted December 20, 2013 Does the new Prostar come standard with a trailer?
oldjeep
Looks like the standard trailer for the Prostar is a 5K option.

Baller ForrestGump Posted December 20, 2013 Baller Share Posted December 20, 2013 At least on the ProStar and the 200, their claimed invoice price is high. I know dealer pricing on both. And MC includes the single axle trailer in the base price of the PS.
Baller ForrestGump Posted December 20, 2013 Baller Share Posted December 20, 2013 Don't forget to add in mandatory delivery charges. Even if you pick a MC or Nautique up from the factory, you get charged delivery charges of between $900 and 1100.
Baller Zman Posted December 21, 2013 Baller Share Posted December 21, 2013 Its really hard to know exactly what a dealer pays but numbers shown look reasonable for Malibu. There are several ways dealers get even further discounts such as placing their orders for inventory early fall time frame (helps keep factories busy in the off season), volume discounts and various promotions. Figure dealer cost in lateer 80's at about $15, 000 times 3% inflation times 25 years and add in the huge improvements and added features - fuel injection, higher HP, safety features, elimination of wood, much plusher interiors, etc. - it appears Malibu has done a great job and is about in line with inflation and improvements. Not sure how the others justify the crazy escalation shown? Demand?
Baller ForrestGump Posted December 21, 2013 Baller Share Posted December 21, 2013 I compared it with a '13 TXI that I had the dealer price sheet on. With the same options, the dealer price sheet I had showed $49k which included the delivery. On that web site's calculator, it showed $51,300. So figured delivery added to it, it's showing about $3500 more than actual.
Brady
Thanks @ShaneH. Your posts were very "insightful"
oldjeep
Thanks. While I'm looking at Moomba, it is good to know that they are somewhat reasonable in their data. I'm really just trying to figure out an idea of what the negotiation range might be. I didn't know if boats had the same invoice to msrp range that cars do, and it appears that they are similar. Administrators Horton Posted December 22, 2013 Administrators Share Posted December 22, 2013 @oldjeep Why Moomba? If you're looking to save money below the big three why not Centurion? oldjeep
@Horton - As far as I know Centurion doesn't sell an affordable 20ft V-drive that you can ski behind. Honestly I don't think I've ever seen a Centurion in MN, looks like the local dealer is the Tracker boat center - which is a bit weird. At the moment the choices for my budget are a new or new(ish) Outback V or an 8 year old Malibu VTX. Since Moomba seems to have a non compete agreement where you have to buy from your local dealer I'll be limited to 2-3 addresses/dealers that I could purchase from. So I'm trying to figure out how you make a deal in a monopoly.
oldjeep
@scotchipman - and that seems reasonable to me. I don't expect to buy below dealer invoice like I did on my pickup, but wouldn't like to be paying 25% over invoice to a dealer that will sell me the boat and then never see me again unless it is a warranty issue. oldjeep
@Horton - yup. I need a boat that is multi purpose, a family machine that you can ski behind with more than 3 in the boat and won't sink in 1 ft rollers ;) I can ski behind a couple comp boats when I feel like it but need something versatile for my own purposes.
