Administrators Horton Posted November 28, 2013 Administrators Share Posted November 28, 2013 I just wanted to let you guys know that I had a long talk with Mark Overbye the CEO of Gekko boats yesterday. I have never seen his one of the boats in person but I am really excited about the idea of a slalom boat for 30 or 40 grand. Mark is very enthusiastic about the future of Gekko and if he is successful I think it is a great thing for the sport. http://www.gekkosports.com/ Support BallOfSpray by supporting the companies that support BallOfSpray California Ski Ranch ★ Connelly ★ Denali ★ Goode ★ KD Skis ★ MasterCraft ★ MasterLine ★ PerfSki ★ Radar ★ Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes

Baller thager Posted November 29, 2013 Baller Share Posted November 29, 2013 Mark's a very good skier too. He gets us. Got Slalom?
DooSPX
I agree 100% @Horton, I feel that a slalom boat in that price range is a GREAT thing for our sport! I'm glad to see Mark is so passionate about water sports! While I may be a MC fan boy, I am glad to have his boats back in the lineup and I hope he succeeds past his expectations. Baller skibug Posted November 29, 2013 Baller Share Posted November 29, 2013 This is a long road to hoe. I hope they are successful. It will be tough getting market share. Even at a really low price point; it is tough to get buy in from the highly skeptical slalom ski community.
oldjeep
His slalom boats are at a nice price point, I wish that they would take their smaller V-drive and offer it with a ski hull. My BIL just moved onto a lake in Prior lake that it seems like 1/2 the boats are Gekkos, I suspect that Mark must have lived nearby.
Brewski
30-40 k is all any ski boat should ever cost... Seems to me the others tack on 30-50 for the name and reputation.. IMHO I have driven the crap out of Gekko's at summer camps with less breakage than both N and MC~!
Baller rawly Posted November 30, 2013 Baller Share Posted November 30, 2013 We could use one in the Bakersfield area. Why don't you get one Horton so we can test it out.
Administrators Horton Posted November 30, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted November 30, 2013 @rawly I am working on a boat deal. Not saying what brand until I work it out. Baller rawly Posted November 30, 2013 Baller Share Posted November 30, 2013 This could be a good episode for your reality show. What should we call the show ? ........ Lake Dynasty ........ Or maybe Wet Jackass Sorry Im getting off topic. Go Gekko boats !
Baller thager Posted November 30, 2013 Baller Share Posted November 30, 2013 @Horton Look at title of thread. Not that hard to figure out. Ball-O-Hair, Camo vest, CA sHick, definitely "Dork Dynaski" reality!
Members Ilivetoski
This will be great if it works out. Going to be hard to do though, Centurion has a good name in the ski community and from what I understand the promo members for Centurion have had a hard time selling their boats. From what I understand skiers still have a bad taste in their mouth from Infinity and see some possible mirror with Centurion (However, I have skied it and IMHO it skis as good as any other boat on the market)
Baller swc5150 Posted January 11, 2014 Baller Share Posted January 11, 2014 I was just on Gekko's website, and looking at the pic of the GTR22 in the course, I couldn't help but be blown away that it produces absolutely no spray. I'm really curious to ski behind one of these.
Razorskier1
They have no spray. I have pics from my 2000GTR running and it is amazing. Also very easy to drive. Like it is on a rail. Wake is small but a little hard at the edges. Overall great ski boat and also great for footing. Crap for trick. You can't make a wake with it. Baller ForrestGump Posted January 13, 2014 Baller Share Posted January 13, 2014 The GTR22 had the tracking of the CC200, 10 years before the CC200 did.
oldjeep
I was surprised that Gekko was not at the Minneapolis Boat Show, their phone number would indicate that they are still based out of MN.
