Baller scuppers Posted November 25, 2013 Baller Share Posted November 25, 2013 Need some advice from a few ballers that have some expience with this. Boat starts and will run but no fuel pressure. Acts like it is running out of gas. Pulled the whole fuel pump assembly out of the tank without really unhooking all the hoses. No water in the tank, tank is near full, paper filter at bottom of assembly looks clean and brand new. 350 Hours. Any suggestions?
Baller ForrestGump Posted November 25, 2013 Baller Share Posted November 25, 2013 MC's in tank pumps are notorious for going bad.
Baller scuppers Posted November 25, 2013 Author Baller Share Posted November 25, 2013 @shaneH what should I replace/ looks like I can just replace the electric pump or does everyone replace the whole setup?
Baller rawly Posted November 25, 2013 Baller Share Posted November 25, 2013 go to the mastercraft sight and check out " Fuel pump 101" Mine went out at about 400 hrs on my 05 X-7 easy job. If you turn the key and dont hear the pump come on for a few seconds it is most likely the pump. Good luck
Members gregy
Did you check the fuel pressure with a gauge? I Think it should around 60psi. If it started it has some fuel pressure. .
Baller scuppers Posted November 25, 2013 Author Baller Share Posted November 25, 2013 @rawly & @gregy Yes when you turn the key you hear it. When you start it it has high 50's FP. then it drops to 15. Sometimes it will run a few passes before it quits. Seems to be getting worse.
Baller rawly Posted November 25, 2013 Baller Share Posted November 25, 2013 Mine did that on its way to complete failure. It was intermittent for a while then it stopped for good. I changed mine at the dock with the help from the Mastercraft thread. Took about an hour. When I took mine apart , the ground wire inside the fuel pump canister was loose. That caused the connectors going to the pump to overheat. I had to replace them. Check em out when you do the job.

Members Jordan
Head over to the Mastercraft Teamtalk site and do a search for "Fuel Pump 101" Everything that you ever wanted to know about your fuel pump is on that thread. There are even cheaper and better replacements listed there.

Brewski
Had to replace one @ 750 hrs. The first replacement did not work right out of the box (very low pressure). MC mechanic says "They should never have put these in boats" I am not sure why he said that. Something to do with them being electronic and not safe?
