Baller jhughes Posted August 28, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 28, 2013 Starting to fire up 36 for my one and only tourney for the year, this fall. I've made 36/15 once this year so far, last week. Today I ran 5 so it's getting somewhat consistent. Obviously not as stacked as I'd like to be as I'm screaming through the course on fire at 36 but I'm getting there! Thoughts? FWIW here is 34 And FWIW here is
Baller KcSwerver Posted August 28, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 28, 2013 What I see... Your ski goes almost completely flat before you hit the first wake, which kicks you up, and you get to the ball late and narrow
Baller gregy Posted August 28, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 28, 2013 Joel your 2/4/6 side is pretty good. I like the smooth rhythm as well. You skiing is coming along. I saw your 22off and 28off attempt on youtube and they look nice as well. I think where you need to focus is the 1/3/5 side. You breaking at the waste some as you come into the turn which results in your shoulders leading out of the turn and a poor stack position into the wake. Also it causing you to get back on the tail enough to make your turn drag out. I would work on getting your hips up and shoulders open coming into the turn, you'll engage the front of the ski which will let the ski do its job (coming under you with your body more open to the boat). The 32mph your doing a better job of this but you can see it just a bit and at 36 its more apparent.

Baller jhughes Posted August 28, 2013 Author Baller Share Posted August 28, 2013 @gregy, great stuff, thanks. Couldn't get anything done out there this morning but I think I'm just all skied out!
Baller estrom Posted August 28, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 28, 2013 My comment would be to compare your head position on your 1/3/5 turn to your head position on 2/4/6. Your head stays up and level on 2/4/6, but it follows your shoulders down and to the inside on 1/3/5 which contributes to what @gregy mentioned above. Baller estrom Posted August 28, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 28, 2013 Oh, I forgot a question...why did you use a 2 handed gate at 32 & 36, but a 1 hander at 34? Is this something you're still experimenting with? If not, pick one and stick with it for the sake of consistency.
Baller Marco Posted August 28, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 28, 2013 @jhughes - I agree with all points above. In addition, at 36 and 34, look at your path around 1 ball. You are already late and downcourse, not giving yourself any room for error the rest of the way. I would try to get better angle through the gate to make room ahead of the ball, and finish the turn at the buoy (backside the buoy). You are at the apex at the buoy right now. At your 32 pass, you are much earlier and take a better path. Freeze frame your 36 pass at 7 seconds and your 32 pass at 9 seconds and you'll see what I am talking about. How do you get better angle through the gate? Get higher on the boat, turn in with speed so your ski can come around completely before loading the rope, stay stacked, and don't pay out the handle until well after the edge change. Baller jhughes Posted August 28, 2013 Author Baller Share Posted August 28, 2013 @estrom @marco I am indeed playing with the gate a bit (hence that single one-hander) and made some big strides with it (the gate) this morning. Trying to establish a "carving" turn-in with zero rope load, up on the balls of my feet with a hips-first movement. This is new for me as I'd previously carve back in with the boat load which took me narrow and made wider glides very hard to control. By completing this carve FREE from boat load, I'm finding that I can easily handle a wider, faster pullout and feels great. Could be a biggie. Baller Deke Posted August 29, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 29, 2013 @jhughes what you just said about carving free of the boat instead of having the boat pull you in is key...
