Baller Dacon62 Posted July 30, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2013 I'm a Malibu guy my ski buddy is a Nautique guy. We both own a boat but are considering selling both of them and purchasing a boat together as we ski together 95% of the time. We are both fussy boat keepers and have similar views on maintenance and care. Looking at a very gently used 200 or TXI. We both normally slalom at 15/22/28 off on a smaller lake with an annual families trip to a larger lake where more room and higher freeboard are an asset. Assuming the wakes are similar I think the overall edge goes to the Malibu for roominess, versatility (wedge), higher freeboard, etc. What do you ballers say... Baller ForrestGump Posted July 30, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2013 Although, I'm a 200 guy...... in your situation I'd purchase the TXI. It is a more versatile boat.
Baller Bulldog Posted July 30, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2013 TXI is my vote. "Do Better..."
Baller Kelvin Posted July 30, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2013 For storage of gear on the annual family outing, the edge goes to the side saddle storage on the 200. Its amazing how much stuff you can get in there.
Baller GOODESkier Posted July 30, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2013 Join the FVWSC and keep your current boat. Even if you join as a casual member and pay a little higher per set price, you will love it! You'll get a new 2013 Nautique 200 and have a great site to ski on (Although Hatsick is probably nice as well). Or you could get, dare I say it............ a bigger inboar designed to pull those that feet face a different way......... Just a thought
cwillygood
TXI, the Nautique is a great boat and i like driving it better than the malibu, but its more of JUST a tournament boat
Baller The_MS Posted July 30, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2013 TXI will be much cheaper but the 200 will put you in the CC cult.
Baller jipster43 Posted July 31, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 31, 2013 There's no replacement for displacement! Water displacement that is. Freeboard is where it's at when yer on public waters. My '93 Mastercraft does not enjoy wakeboard boats.
Baller bdougherty Posted July 31, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 31, 2013 What is the true price difference for like equipped TXi and a 200? Is the TXi really that much cheaper?
Baller ForrestGump Posted July 31, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 31, 2013 TXI is a good bit cheaper. Perfect example is our 13 Promo 200. It's dealer invoice was $7500 more than the like equipped 13 Promo TXi that one of my ski partners bought. Both with trailers.
Brian_M
Isn't the TXi cheaper on gas too?
Baller rq0013 Posted July 31, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 31, 2013 with our 08 197 we do about 1gal/set and the 200 we ski behind a few times a year is just over 2gal/set. I would guess the txi would be some where in between.
Baller Dacon62 Posted August 1, 2013 Author Baller Share Posted August 1, 2013 While fuel consumption is only one of the multitude of items to consider when purchasing a boat it is a factor. In another post someone mentioned that they had run a TXI and a 200 for the same amount of hours and had tracked the fuel consumption and if memory serves the TXI used about 1/3 less over the considerable time frame measured. Anyone know where to find that comment?
Baller LeonL Posted August 1, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 1, 2013 No, but JD used to track fuel usage at tournaments meticulously. He may chime in.
Baller MAD11 Posted August 1, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 1, 2013 After owning CC's for 20 years I couldn't be happier with the last two TXI's I have had. 25 to 30% less fuel, equal or better quality, drives unbelievable and cost less. Not sure what else to say. Ohh, and I don't need a 6L to make it perform like it should.
Baller skibug Posted August 1, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 1, 2013 I drive and ski behind both boats weekly. They are both great boats; but, I prefer the TXI from both aspects. And when you figure in cost of the boat, quality, and fuel consumption; the TXI wins hands down.
Baller BlueSki Posted August 3, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 3, 2013 How is the TXI wake for the kids/wife at slow speeds and 15 off? I think the last Bu I was behind was an LXI.
Baller KcSwerver Posted August 3, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 3, 2013 The new bu is amazing at -15 any speed. I'd say it is the best boat at 32 -15 skiing wise (besides our 95 MC) but I am a little biased towards that beauty or a beast... Ahh <
Baller Dacon62 Posted August 3, 2013 Author Baller Share Posted August 3, 2013 It would be nice if Malibu had available a fold down, stowable, middle observers seat like the 200 has... The large based movable seat they offer now consumes a pile of space and is not stow away friendly.
Baller skibug Posted August 3, 2013 Baller Share Posted August 3, 2013 Our middle seat just slides up between the walk through just until it butts up angainst the windshield, no problem, out of the way.....unless you are using the open bow, which we never do.
