xrated
Well it seems there has been lots of video being posted looking for advice so I'm taking my turn. After skiing with @MS a couple weeks ago he told me to work on not breaking the waist (which I knew I was doing) and really work at keeping my hips up and handle close when going towards the wakes. So all last week while skiing I made sure to concentrate solely on that when I wasn't distracted by the loons or ducks. So here is video from my last ski, sorry for the shakes and low light. Wife said something about being cold after she skied, and all I had was the iphone for video. I felt like I was doing a better job of holding my edge and keeping myself from breaking forward while I was skiing but I'm not sure I see it as much in the video. I will say I was carrying way more speed across the wake than I have all year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dk7agzofvnc http://youtu.be/xh7KPfIUvEc
tbrenchley
Not going to lie...I thought twice before clicking on a thread titled "video dissection" that was created by someone named XRATED...

Baller A_B Posted July 16, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 16, 2013 Nice rhythm. I would like to see you bring your hip up to handle and stand taller with chest out and front knee flexed forward over front ankle at ALL times until it feels second nature. Do this when you are dragging behind the boat, do it when you first lean out and especially when you turn in for wakes. This is one of the most fundamental requirements of running the course. You will find that skiing with arms straight and handle in to your waist will make it seem effortless. (Well almost).
Baller SkiJay Posted July 16, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 16, 2013 @xrated I absolutely LOVE your videos. I may not have this exactly correct, but it sounds like a boat full of happy kids, a smiling wife and a ski buddy. You are cruising down a gorgeous wooded beachline on a glassy calm lake at sunset to the song of a V8, swerving to your heart's content. Life just doesn't get much better than this! Baller thager Posted July 16, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 16, 2013 Nice job xrated! Looked like a lot of fun! I do something similar on Tuesday nights with a group of my buddies. A bunch of us just pile into a 99 SN 196 skis and all, free ski ,laugh, make rowdy and just have a jolly good time. Have one of those beers you gave me at MS's to cool down! : )
Baller ToddL Posted July 16, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 16, 2013 Fun stuff for sure! One thing that I noticed... it looks like you load the handle before the turn has really finished. Think about this: while your ski is turning, you want it to come around further between you and the boat before you start to lean hard on the handle. This will give you more time to ensure that your hips have come around, too. By digging in before the turn is complete, you end up with your shoulders leading your lean vs. your hips leading the lean. It is very easy to keep your hips up across the wake when you start with them there because you let the turn finish before loading your lean against the boat. Baller BraceMaker Posted July 16, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 16, 2013 Mad props on the dusk skiing - it is hard to decide if it is scarier going into the sun where you can see the waves and bumps, or away from the sunset where you cannot see squat. I also love when it feels so cold while skiing that the lake feels balmy.
xrated
Thanks guys. That's why I ski, friends and family fun times. Wind had been blowing 20 all day and just laid down at dusk. I will work on the advice. @ToddL when you say I am loading the handle is that a result of not letting the ski finish the turn? That was something else @MS mentioned to me, that I needed to let the turn finish.
