Baller KcSwerver Posted May 23, 2013 Baller Share Posted May 23, 2013 I have been faced with not a problem but an irritation, it is just so hard to get this dumb dual lock off of my ski to replace it. Any tricks you all know of or use? Thanks! -Bryan Bailey
Baller Dirt Posted May 23, 2013 Baller Share Posted May 23, 2013 Plastic scraper and mineral spirits
Baller ForrestGump Posted May 23, 2013 Baller Share Posted May 23, 2013 If it's the black stuff, just throw the ski in the trash and get a new one. LOL. THAT stuff is always a royal pain in the A$$ to get off. It only took once for me to start ordering the clear. I found that I could soak it in orange glue remover overnight and it would soften it up enough to scrape off fairly easily.
Baller skinut Posted May 23, 2013 Baller Share Posted May 23, 2013 Mineral spirits with a razor blade scraper. Supper easy, just did it the other night. The mineral spirits work really fast compared to any goo removers.
Baller Zman Posted May 23, 2013 Baller Share Posted May 23, 2013 Get a spray can of 3M Adhesive Remover. It runs about 20-25 dollars for one can, but will last many years. I try to carefully peel the dual lock from one end to the other to minimize how much stays with the ski or plate. Then spray a little of the 3M adhesive remover on the glue that remains, rub the bigger chunks right off with my thumbs, then use an old rag and a little more 3M. Pretty easy really with this stuff - white or black.
Baller jcamp Posted May 23, 2013 Baller Share Posted May 23, 2013 Make sure the adhesive remover that @Zman suggested is citrus based. I used the non-citrus on the black stuff and it didn't budge. Bought the citrus based and it came off super easy. I got mine online for $10. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZHOZRO/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=
Baller MrJones Posted May 23, 2013 Baller Share Posted May 23, 2013 ... and replace it with the clear backed stuff. Just peal off and wipe with alcohol and you're done.
Baller Chef23 Posted May 23, 2013 Baller Share Posted May 23, 2013 A heat gun would probably help also.
TylerR
I don't use dual lock, but have seen several people use a heat gun or put their ski in the sun before trying to use a cleaner to pull the glue off
Baller scuppers Posted May 23, 2013 Baller Share Posted May 23, 2013 I have used WD-40 pretty successfully in the past. Peal off the dual lock as cleanly as possible then spray whats left with the WD and let it soak. Re-spray to keep it good and wet and in an hour or two all the residue will just wipe right off. No chance of ruining the ski with the WD-40 either.
Baller Bulldog Posted May 23, 2013 Baller Share Posted May 23, 2013 +1 vote for the 3M remover. Dual lock is their product so the remover is purpose made. "Do Better..."

KM
Definitely recommend using the clear. It just peels right off. No need to use any solvents.
Baller Sledgehammer Posted May 24, 2013 Baller Share Posted May 24, 2013 Get a Goo Gone (in any hardware store or walmart), soak the black parts completely, leave it on for a while, and then just peel off the stripes. Works like magic. Believe me, lots of Velcro experience! Make sure to clean the ski thoughtfully before re-velcroing
E_T
The best way to remove dual lock is to not use it!!!!! Just buy strada boots it's 1000x safer FYI @kcswerver
