Wondering what ski I should purchase for slalom comps and after suggestions from professionals.

I have been skiing socially for years and have a HO Espirit ski, but would like to start slalom comps next year. Even though I am a female I am very strong, so don't necessarily need a ski made for females. At the moment I am skiing at 40 and am just getting to the buoys on the big course but not going around them. At this speed I am bogging down, and if I ski at 43 I ski a heap better, but my coach had me at the lower speed to teach me the correct technique. Just wondering if anyone in the higher divisions or a ski coach can give me any suggestions as to what I should purchase. Thanks.

Not knowing what your ability is, the correct speed is hard to comment on. But, slower speeds "Can" be an asset for drills and technique. If you are sinking too much and bogging down, the slow speed can be a detriment to your purpose.

 

I might consider bumping the speed up to 43-46 on your present Ski or you may benefit from a Wider (more surface area) Ski such as the Radar Theory. I have used the Theory @ slower speeds (49-52) into short line and had very good results w/o the Bogging down effect.

What's great these days is you have a good selection from several companies. All of which would work well. Radar HO and D3 all make great skies in your range. If there is an opertunity to try before you buy I'd highly suggest it. Most pro shops will be able to direct you to to the level and size ski you would need. Ski-it-Again is a great way to save big $ on a 1 or 2 yr old ski.

Anything Radar is always a good choice. The mid-rage Radar skis are awesome and fit you level

Many female skiers love anything D3 (as do I)

The current HO Superlite X, Coefficient C or Couture X are all safe bets

In the end you want to demo / try skis if you can.

Thanks all. Will see how I go. I live in Australia so would most likely purchase a ski from here rather than from overseas - so that returns are easier if something goes wrong.
