kfennell
Seriously, like People laugh when I ask for the biggest helmet, and they say this will fit FOR SURE, and the chin piece will end up right in position to break my nose. I don't mind if it's not a Jump helmet, etc I am actually wearing a Hockey Helmet now, but it seems like it did a good job of grabbing alot of water last time I fell face first. Ideas? doonez
I don't know much about jumping but how about a downhill mountain bike helmet? They are extremely light and you could take the visor off?? http://www.torpedo7.co.nz/products/2DHLFN2RN/title/demon-2012-option-dirt-helmet
kfennell
I tried one already, and it was too heavy, I just ordered another one as I poasted this thread (yay amazon free returns) but I am not really optimisitc, it weighs 40g more then that one you listed so it's pretty light as well. Unfortunately some of the really light helmets like the specialized carbon ones don't seem to be available on the net in the US.
Administrators Horton Posted January 25, 2013 Administrators Share Posted January 25, 2013 If you are not jumping far a hockey helmet should be fine. I jumped 150s without a brain bucket. kfennell
To me short jumps are the most dangerous because there is the chance I slide out and hit my head on the ramp.
Administrators Horton Posted January 25, 2013 Administrators Share Posted January 25, 2013 I hear that. Are you sure you want to jump? You /we are not kids anymore. Baller gregy Posted January 27, 2013 Baller Share Posted January 27, 2013 Like @jackski says. White water kayak / canoe helmet should work. You might try contacting the manufacturers for there recommendations.

Baller thager Posted February 2, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 2, 2013 Back in the 70's some jumpers I knew cut and modified football helmets. A thought if truly desperate.
Baller BraceMaker Posted February 2, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 2, 2013 @eleeski - happen to have knowledge of molding EPS foam?
Baller_ RichardDoane Posted February 2, 2013 Baller_ Share Posted February 2, 2013 @kfennell - I used to use a BMX helmet, but it would get too heavy when wet, so I went to a wakeboard style that's considerably lighter, and stays that way http://www.wakeside.com/category/wakeboard_gear/more_gear/wakeboard_helmets.do
aswinter05
Snow ski helmets are extremely light. I would check those. They are also pretty comfortable
Baller eleeski Posted February 3, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 3, 2013 Which comes first: the jumping or the dain bramage? Serious jumpers seem to like some kind of chin protection. Jump specific helmets might be the best - but that's a very small market and might not have a large size selection. Wakeboard helmets target a larger market so you might find a fit that will perform well wet. Somebody was worried about Kirk and gave him a jump specific helmet. Mine is a fashion accessory which passes the dock starter (maybe it won't pass Joan Rivers) but is worthless in a real head banger. Falling big is not an option for me - maybe that's why they measure my jumps in centimeters. @Bracemaker I haven't worked with EPS outside of an injection mold. Personally, I would want a softer cushion for padding than EPS. I really liked the ProTec wakeboard foam consistency - it solved Kirk's whackboard induced headaches when he was learning wakeboard tricks. Helmets need to be engineered to a specific challenge. A helmet that can help with a baseball bat to the head is a different helmet from one that makes painful head slaps on water not hurt. Baller thager Posted February 3, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 3, 2013 Take a look at Parachute helmets. May fit the bill but can be pretty expensive. At least that is what Freddy K's remind me of.
Klinger
Hydrogen is a popular ski dive helmet that many jumpers wear. I know Bennett's has them on their website as well as another brand. I do hear your pains though, as I also have a large melon! I used a Vector mountain bike helmet for a few years, worked fine, but was heavy and big! I ended up with an XL hydrogen helmet. Bad part is they are around 250 or more. ProTec makes some good helmets for wakeboarding and mountain biking, but I never was able to find a ProTec that was big enough. Good luck! Baller Ham_Wallace Posted February 4, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 4, 2013 I have had a skydive helmet for 13 years with no problem. Mine is a Medium. I know they make an XL. Not cheap but good. www.thinkhelmets.com
