Baller Cam Posted December 3, 2012 Baller Share Posted December 3, 2012 Got my wife's ski 2nd hand and most of the threads in the inserts were shot and had self tapping screws in them, finally got round to tapping them out to 5mm from 4mm was going to use allen head screws but ended up putting studs in and using dome nuts, I am quite pleased with the outcome. Baller_ Wish Posted December 3, 2012 Baller_ Share Posted December 3, 2012 @Cam, that looks great. Do you mount the hard shells perminant or do they release?
Baller Cam Posted December 3, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted December 3, 2012 @Wish it is a Reflex style setup where the front boot releases and the rear boot has no cuff so the back foot and liner come out, I am on the same setup and it works well. Baller BraceMaker Posted December 3, 2012 Baller Share Posted December 3, 2012 Very nice work there. Did you get a bottoming tap to get to the bottom of the inserts? Or does the stud bind up so it stays put?
Baller Cam Posted December 3, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted December 3, 2012 @BraceMaker I just used the lead tap hoping the studs would bind up but I was through the insert very quickly so I am guessing the inserts are not very deep, the studs are quite firm but I may use some thread lock later if there is any movement. Baller_ RichardDoane Posted December 3, 2012 Baller_ Share Posted December 3, 2012 @cam - just add a drip of the green loctite to your installed studs, it "wicks" in
GAJ0004
I just have to replace a base plate for the rear binding on my slalom ski.
