Baller Garn Posted October 7, 2012 Baller Share Posted October 7, 2012 Does anyone know, particularly those that use EXOs, from where on the front heal do you measure from? Do you measure from the bottom of the boot where it contacts the metal rail? Or do yo measure it a little higher up on the heal where it is further back? It's a good half inch difference. Thanks, Garn
Chuck_Dickey
I measure to the lower back of the curve part of the boot above the rail, the area just above where it tapers down to the rail. HO has done a good job of making the Zero mark on the rail for the front boot the stock setting for each ski.
Baller ForrestGump Posted October 7, 2012 Baller Share Posted October 7, 2012 FYI, you might consider cutting the front off of the back boot in order to be able to get the boots closer together. The closest my 10s would go together was 12 5/8. I cut 3/4 of an inch off of the rear and can get them within 12 now.
Baller Garn Posted October 7, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted October 7, 2012 @Chuck Dickey I'm holding my boot and looking at the heel. There are two rectangularish holes in back. I'm not 100% sure where you say to measure from. Do you measure from the top of these holes? Middle? Bottom of the holes? @ShaneH, I don't know if I would dare to cut the end of my rear boot off. I paid a lot of money for these things! Garn
Chuck_Dickey
Top, where the curve starts. Measure on the base of the curve.
Baller ForrestGump Posted October 8, 2012 Baller Share Posted October 8, 2012 @Garn, but if they work better then who cares! It's just plastic. A hack saw and sandpaper and you can make it look very nice.
Waternut
Yeah I wish my EXO's could be mounted closer together but I was afraid to ruin them. After a few sets, it didn't really bother me that the rear foot was back further than usual. Guess I could always blame the boots that I'm not running my 34mph pass... Baller BraceMaker Posted October 8, 2012 Baller Share Posted October 8, 2012 @shaneh - you see that with the FM products too, lots of them have chopped rear boots to get the larger shells together. My large shells on 66's have ankle to ankle measurements similar to where my Large Wiley's boots go if I set them up as close together as possible, so while they could be "closer" with my foot size, they are not more than other comprable product. Chuck_Dickey
Most brands of hard shels make their shells to fit a wide range of sizes on one shell, for me the Powershells and Reflex have me in a shell with 2" of room in the toe. The EXO fit more true to size and with me, my ankles at at 11.75" spacing.
