jbarker93
I'm looking for an older Connelly HC Trick Ski, 42 inch preferred.
Baller eleeski Posted September 4, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 4, 2012 Go with a modern ski. Quantum, Goode and D3 hardedge are great all around skis. Your skiing will progress much faster on one of these. Of course if you are looking for a wall display, find the antique ski. The HC has a lot of history. Baller rodltg2 Posted September 5, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 5, 2012 Sorry to thread jack , but I'm a beginner tricker and on and older , probably early 90's vintage Connelly. Black with neon squiggles. My trick run is basic at best. Would I benifit spending the dough on a new one ? I plan on improving and skiing some tournaments. Got one undery belt and had a blast. Baller skihart Posted September 5, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 5, 2012 @rodltg2 same here. I am on the same Jobe trick I used 25 years ago, and sadly still doing the same tricks... Are the new skis that much better? Have they improved like the slalom skis have?
Baller eleeski Posted September 5, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 5, 2012 Yes the new skis are that much better! Hardshells are worth it too. Eric
Baller skihart Posted September 5, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 5, 2012 Hmmmmm.....probably should have started a new thread for this but any reccomendations for specific ski? I think I am on a 42 now. I am 5 10 and about 170 lbs.
Baller eleeski Posted September 5, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 5, 2012 The Goodes, Quantums and D3 hardedges I have liked all ski best in the bigger sizes. Get the big ski and adjust your boat speed (note I adjust the speed higher!). @skihart You are about my size and I liked ~44" at 19mph on these skis. My Leeski is now also 44" and 18.5mph. dfski
I'm finding this thread interesting, as I'm also a relative beginner. What length would you recommend for a 55 year old male, 150 - 155 lbs, 5' 6"
Baller Chef23 Posted September 5, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 5, 2012 @skihart I would definitely go 44". My son is 140 lbs and is on a 43" and it has been great for him.
Baller skihart Posted September 5, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 5, 2012 @eleeski @Chef23 seems big but I will trust you guys. I am doing hand passes at 18.8 mph now, should I stay the same with a bigger ski? Also my current ski is rubber edged. Any advantage to the new hard edge skis? Baller eleeski Posted September 5, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 5, 2012 Like with slalom, there are so many variables. The three skis I recommend to developing skiers have a deep riding feel that speed and size work well with. I'd certainly keep the speed up at first - and don't be afraid to up the speed further (lengthen the rope to keep everything else the same if you do speed up). It might be a personal thing but I never liked the D3 rubber edge ski. The college kids seem to learn faster on the hardedge. I like other skis more for specific things but the Goode, the Quantum or the D3 hardedge are proven great skis for developing skiers. Worth every penny! Baller skihart Posted September 6, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 6, 2012 Sounds good. Just had a look on SIA.....nothing in a 44 but I will keep my eyes open. Who has new ones or demos?
jbarker93
Thanks for the insight regarding a new ski, I actually do have a nice trick but am actually looking for the Connelly HC as a 2nd ski for a 2 ski pass. Again, if anybody has one lying around they would like to get rid of, let me know, I'm interested. Thanks!!
