Baller SkiJay Posted August 18, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 18, 2012 Calgary Pro Water Ski Shoot-Out Results (from memory but I think it's accurate: Men's Slalom Shoot-Out: 1st - Nate Smith - 2@41 2nd - Terry Winter - 5@39 3rd - Chris Parrish - 1.5@39 Women's Slalom Shoot-Out: 1st - Karen Truelove 5@38 2nd - Whitney McClintock 4.5@38 3rd - Karina Nowlan (missed 6 ball in the -35 opener) Men's Jump Shootout: 1st - Ryan Dodd - 220 2nd - Freddie Krueger - 219 3rd - Rodrigo Miranda - 189 Ryan's second to last jump was approximately 228, but the measuring equipment missed it and the backup failed, so he had to rejump. That's when he nailed the 220 to the wild cheers of the mostly Canadian crowd. It was a brilliant day with glorious weather, a capacity crowd, and awesome skiing. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1530989/Waterskiing/BOS/ProShootOut%20Crowd.jpg

Baller ScarletArrow Posted August 18, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 18, 2012 Why schedule a pro event same weekend as US Nationals and BD?
Baller SkiJay Posted August 18, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 18, 2012 @MattP Unfortunately, there was no women's Jump in the Shoot-Out. The format was designed to make it as captivating as possible for the non-skier crowd, and it was tough to include everyone in the short schedule. The preliminaries started early in the morning to establish who would be in the shoot-out, but the event was marketed to the general public as starting at noon. The semi-finals of the shoot-out itself were restricted to the best four women skiers, the best eight men skiers, and the top 8 men jumpers. The finals included only the top three in each group, with Nielly Ross and Page Rini winning the hearts of the crowd in exhibitions. It was nearly as big a crowd as we had for the 2009 Worlds and everyone stayed until Ryan's final jump, so the format was a hit with the public. Baller MattP Posted August 18, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 18, 2012 So that says there could have been womans jumping if the prize money was there for it. Gotcha.
Baller SkiJay Posted August 18, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 18, 2012 @ScarletArrow Scheduling is always a balancing act. The Canadian Nationals are scheduled to be at the same time as the US Nationals, and having the Pro Shoot-Out at the end of our Nationals made sense from a logistics point of view (the volunteers, Jumbotron, camera crews, cherry pickers, etc. etc. etc. were already on-site). Why the Big Dawg scheduled so close to the US Nationals is a question for them.
Baller SkiJay Posted August 18, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 18, 2012 @MattP Money generally talks; but in this case, it was more about time constraints and packaging a water ski show that catered to an A.D.D. general public.

Baller ski4xtc Posted August 20, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 20, 2012 @Detrick, Brian - will there be elite points for this tournament? Thanks for the recaps, updates, tweets and everything else you continually do to promote the sport!
Detrick
@ski4xtc Thank you for the kind words!! There were no elite points for this tournament. One reason may be because it was during Europeans.
