Fin/Binding

Hi guy,s I was having a discussion with somebody who is knowledgeable about skiing, we were talking about a possible adjustment to my ski, my take on it was if you move the fin forward, it shortens the ski, but also effectively moves the bindings back, so the adjustment could be made by moving the binding back, I was told this is not how it is, can anybody shed some light on this and tell me if I am right or wrong.
