Connelly Mid S and course?

Does anyone know someone who has attempted the course on a Connelly Mid S? My friend is a big guy 6'5 275lbs and he's looking for a cheap ski. He is a pretty beginner skier looking to attempt the course...not going to be running anything besides 15 off 30mph anytime soon I wouldn't expect. Is this ski overkill for him as far as size...is it just too wide to expect to be able to ski in the course at all? Any input woudl be appreciated. Thanks.

@WBLskier - the Radar P6 is the weapon of choice for bigger skiers who are learning the course at the lower speeds

HO makes a big wide ride ski like 71" that isn't very expensive. At 240 I skied the 69" version into 28 off. I think that would work well.

@WBLskier in the HO family it is the Comp Free ride ski and it comes in 69 and 71" sizes. The Triumph might work also but that isn't quite so wide and it comes in 71" also.

Usually you can find last year's models somewhere at a good price.

 

It looks like Wiley's has them for $259 including a Wiley front boot and RTP.

The Mid S was designed more as a fun freeriding ski. It might carve a decent turn but wake crossings in the course could be an adventure. 71" HO Triumph or 71" Radar P-6 might be better choices.

You can ski those Connelly Mids in the course my daughter skied the smaller one in the course and I have seen kids ski on them in tournaments but I do agree that a Triumph of one of the HO Comp skis would be better. I haven't seen a 71" P6 but the 65" is pretty wide. How long does the Theory come in? That might be a nice option.

The Connelly will be a challenge in the course for your buddy. I'm assuming you're looking at the Mid S because someone has got one lying around, but it will make the course more of a challenge than it already is. I've skied the Mid S, HO Triumph, and Connelly Outlaw at 275#, and latter two would be much better. If he's just getting the hang of things, the Outlaw would be my suggestion, as it's extremely forgiving and I preferred it to the Triumph when it came to the wake crossings (which surprised me...)
