jdarwin
Personally, I wouldn't buy a $500k WITHOUT a realtor! Too much money not to have professional representation.
Texas6
My parents are both brokers and would facilitate the transaction for free. But I understand your concern, it isn't for everybody. Just for those looking to save $20k+
jdarwin
I meant MY realtor. I am certain you feel confident that your parents would represent your interests effectively. Not so sure in a dual-agency arrangement. And, since the seller typically pays the commission out of the proceeds from the sale, you would be the one saving the 20k. Chef23
@jdarwin given the Internet these days it is pretty easy to find comps to set pricing. I would lean on a real estate attorney an appraiser and a good home inspector. You need all of those things anyway and if you can get the seller to drop the price 3% you come out ahead. I sold a house a number of years ago without a realtor and there were no problems.
