jwroblew
Has anyone mounted a GoPro on the windshield to video them while skiing? Does it work? Wide enough field of view? I wanted a simple solution to video ski sets and didn't want the hassle of a tracker type system.
FA
Jason, No it is not functional from the windshield. The field of view is too large with the Go pro. You look like tiny ants skiing behind the driver.
usaski1
Its totally possible on the HD hero 2... record in 1080p. Set FOV to narrow. or medium
jwroblew
@usaski1, would it be possible to post a video?
Members DUSkier
@Jwroblew Dropped to 55k yet?? =) Will get a photo of a mates PVC camera mount that slips over pole for you. Not super crisp but inexpensive, and good enough for self assesment.
jwroblew
@DUSkier, I mostly have conceded to skiing at 55k, although I still will take a set or two at 58k every once and awhile, like I did this past weekend.
Members DUSkier
hahaha Mate has been out of town so will tag you in on a photo on FB down the track, basically he made a PVC sleeve to fit over the pylon with foam tape inside and a slot for the rope, glued a dome top on and drilled a hole to mount the camera. Tom351
This is a frame from a windshield mounted HeroHD (not the new hero2) in R5-1080p (which is 127degrees vs R3-720p at 170degrees). I think the Hero2 lets you adjust FOV separately from resolution.
Baller MrJones Posted May 8, 2012 Baller Share Posted May 8, 2012 We did the Go Pro on the windshield at Darwin's place a few weeks ago. I actually found it on my first dive in the water after it slid off the bow. (Make sure it is mounted well)
usaski1
Mount it to the dash. Or sticky mount it to the back side of the motor box. I have some dash mounted video somewhere... here it is mounted on the dash... and fov set to wide... could be better at medium or narow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtvfqWRegfU
jwroblew
Seems like at shorter rope lengths your pre turn and turn would be out of the picture frame. And at 15' off your to tiny to make out any small differences in body position.
Tom351
Agreed- the GoPro's wide FOV is more geared toward stuff like this (below) which would be great for breaking down position, but this setup is kinda high maintenence to set up and use regularly:
jwroblew
I love the old school HO CDX in that video. That was my first ski.
