Well, the deltoid ligamant is very tough and does usually tear off a piece of the medial malleolus before it actually gives way. (Not sure about the fibula comment.) It does tear though and I think you will need to get it repaired. I would talk to some athletic trainers and PTs in your area who see a lot of athletes. Ask them who the main foot and ankle ortho is in the area. They will likely see patients from a lot of Docs and can give you some good suggestions.

Can someone dig up that video of @shaneh telling one of his hot chick stories from last year. Good laughs were had by all.

@smitty just get it checked by someone creditable. If they are not sure what to do well that would not be reassuring to me.

I spraIned mine some time ago. It took a solid year of strengthening before any normal stability was evident. Arch is now perfect again. It is what got me into jäger/fluid motion hard shells in 2003ish, and away from animals. Now I ride reflex front and remi style rear boot.

Deltoid ligament is medial and attached to tibia, not fibula. Having said that, if deltoid is torn that would result from a rotation causing significant medial displacement of the superior talus toward the tibia and lateral displacement of the inferior talus toward the fibula, which certainly could create a fibular fracture. Can also fracture tibia, or both tib and fib (bi-maleolar), and or/talar dome. It sounds like no fracture here for @smitty.

Agree with @Mr. Jones...insist on a foot and ankle orthopedist (special branch of orthopedics).
