Skihack
Hello Horton, What ski goggles do you use? I need to get something and have my doc put a prescription lense in. Do they float? Next thing you know, I will need false teeth. Wonder if I can get the floating type. Thanks.

Baller B_S Posted July 8, 2011 Baller Share Posted July 8, 2011 Try Spex-Rx amphibious prescription eyewear. You just give them your Rx and they'll make them for you, plus they float. I've used these for years because I don't like to wear contacts and I'm blind as a bat.
Baller_ Wish Posted July 8, 2011 Baller_ Share Posted July 8, 2011 I used Spex for yrs as well. Worked well enough. Not much else available at the time (1990s). Price was fare from what I remember. They floated well.
Administrators Horton Posted July 8, 2011 Administrators Share Posted July 8, 2011 @davemac nailed it. They are cheap and float and keep my contacts in place + make me look sexy BABE’S ★ California Ski Ranch ★ Connelly ★ Denali ★ Goode ★ KD Skis MasterCraft ★ MasterLine ★ PerfSki ★ Radar ★ Rodics Innovation Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes
andyb
I use a frame from http://www.libertysport.com/default.asp with prescription I think the frame I have is called Hydro comes with a float. Also blind as a bat and always struggled with contacts.
Baller_ Wish Posted July 8, 2011 Baller_ Share Posted July 8, 2011 So now I wear contacts but like JTH I wear sunglasses to stop water from hitting them. Walmart $5 polarized Berkley brand. Huge help in glare reduction being polerized and any rain (been in a few rainy tournies) they are a life saver. I use a rubber tubing glasses strap (comes in many colors) also sold at Walmart $2 (cut in half for snug fit so..$1) Enough air gets trapped in the tubing to float glasses. But hay, $6 bucks if lost...no big deal. Some say they can't handle the water spots but after a while u don't see them any more. As for sexy... I was under the impression he thought it was his hair. Skihack
Thanks for the info guys. Now I need to pick some to match my badass Radar Strada built for the big leagues. This bitch is so big, I might need one of those old small fins they use to put on the Connelly HP, so I can get it to turn.
Baller Bulldog Posted July 9, 2011 Baller Share Posted July 9, 2011 Try a product called Rain X on the lenses. I use it on my motorcycle helmet lens and the water just whips off. It is in the automotive section of most big box stores. "Do Better..."
Baller_ Wish Posted July 9, 2011 Baller_ Share Posted July 9, 2011 If the glasses/shades are plastic, does the Rain-X ruin them??
Baller Bulldog Posted July 9, 2011 Baller Share Posted July 9, 2011 Not at all, I have used rain X on both glass and plastic. My motorcycle helmet lens is plastic. Rain X is basically a clear wax that makes the water run off very easily. I have used it on sunglasses that I have slalomed with and had great results. The water can't stick to the lenses so you have very clear vision. "Do Better..."
danbirch
I tried Horton's glasses w/contacts last winter, and kept getting fogging issues (about after 2-3 passes). I did use rain-x, but the fog would still come. Does anyone else have the fogging problem?
Baller Bulldog Posted July 9, 2011 Baller Share Posted July 9, 2011 Try rain X on the outside of the lens, and an anti fog coating (most eye glass stores have it) or the good old divers trick of using your own spit and then rinsing. I have only used sunglasses and I never had any fog issues. "Do Better..."
Baller ski6jones Posted July 9, 2011 Baller Share Posted July 9, 2011 Bought RainX but saw also that it wasn't recommended for plastic. I use Spex, anyone try RainX on those?
Administrators Horton Posted July 9, 2011 Administrators Share Posted July 9, 2011 I just stick my face in the water before I each deep water start. Administrators Horton Posted July 10, 2011 Administrators Share Posted July 10, 2011 NOTE: there is crude and water spots on my ski glasses all the time. As I said above, once I pull out of the gate I do not notice. On shore I HATE dirty glasses but when skiing it does not bug me. Baller keithh2oskier Posted August 17, 2016 Baller Share Posted August 17, 2016 @Horton do you still use the same brand? Are these just to protect water from getting into your contacts or are these prescription? I refuse to touch my eye and use contacts so I am looking at prescription options for when I ski.
