Baller Stevie Boy Posted May 22, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 22, 2011 If skiing on water with increased temperature, say 7-10 degrees, regarding a skis fin, what adjustment is the Norm, do you change your dft, depth or length, or would it be a combination, do you take away or add ? Baller jackski Posted May 22, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 22, 2011 I usually go a little shallower as the water gets warmer. I my lake about .003-4 every 10 F.
Baller skibug Posted May 22, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 22, 2011 I actually don't touch my fin. I move the bindings back 1/8" or 1/4". So somewhere when the water hits between 80 - 85 degrees; I move the bindings back and leave the fin alone. I gauge this based on when I think I need less tip or I am breaking a little too much on my offside.
Baller ral Posted May 22, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 22, 2011 I used to tweak my fin in different water temps, but the Z7 and Z7 ST seem to be less sensitive to it. Will tell for sure next week, after switching from a cozy 13C water in Santiago to a brisk 27C in Atlanta...
Baller_ DW Posted May 23, 2011 Baller_ Share Posted May 23, 2011 I find I can take out a little tip as the water warms up.
Baller Ed_Obermeier Posted May 23, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 23, 2011 There was a pretty good arguement last year on this very subject if I recall correctly. Some, like Brent, reduce DFT as the water gets warmer. Others, like myself and most of the folks I ski with, have better luck ADDING DFT as the water gets warmer. Only adjustment I make, move the fin forward or back depending on the water temp. Just have to try it both ways and see which works for you. Baller Ed_Obermeier Posted May 23, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 23, 2011 Wouldn't blame you for that. I still love my original issue Mapple hand tuned MPD serial # 0028. Loving my Strada too but I kept the MPD for backup. Just in case.
