Baller ral Posted May 3, 2011 Author Baller Share Posted May 3, 2011 Nope. Biceps. Like having pain when doing biceps-curl-like movements (and maintaining pressure on left arm from 1 to 2...). In the upper and lower biceps tendon insertions (shoulder, but minor, and forearm, where the pain really is.)
Baller MrJones Posted May 3, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 3, 2011 I have been blessed with this in the past. Rx is the same as with most tendonitis. Warm up fully before skiing with short stretches (10 seconds) and light exercise. Leave those arms extended in your lean. Stretch and ice after skiing. Off water treatment is mostly the same. Contrast hot/cold packs, stretching, friction massage of the tendon, anti-inflammatory medicatons. You also might want to go easy on the off water lifting if you typically do a lot of biceps curls, pull downs, rows. It will likely nagg you for a while. Good luck! Baller ral Posted May 4, 2011 Author Baller Share Posted May 4, 2011 @Scot Jones, thanks for your always good and expert knowledge on these topics. What stretches and exercises would you recommend? At this stage, being off the water for now 7 days has not yielded a strong recovery...
Baller Razorskier1 Posted May 4, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 4, 2011 as much as possible leave it alone aside from skiing. Tendonitis responds best to rest, ice, and ibuprofen. With the pain in your forearm it is also possible you could have a partial tear at the insertion. I completely tore mine and had it repaired. A friend of mine had a partial tear and the doctor told him NO activity with it for 4 months. That did it, but was difficult for him as it was in the midst of ski season. My brother has been dealing with one of these for 2 years now. Without rest, it is hard to get rid of the pain.
Baller jackski Posted May 4, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 4, 2011 Razorski1 I completely agree. Been there a couple of times and it's not an instant fix.
Baller 6balls Posted May 4, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 4, 2011 I lift really heavy in the offseason, but have not done heavy curls in earnest for a few years. At it's worst, was unable to do any pulling activities like chins/rows etc. Felt very much like if I continued to push it, it was coming off. A med school buddy of mine went on to orthopedic surgery and sports medicine fellowship. He's a big dude (former lifting partner) never saw a fight he didnt' like, drinks beer, and is an athlete. Our conversation went like this..."Tom, I can tolerate the pain, the bench competition is in 6 weeks (May)...do I really need to lay off it?" He says "Well, that depends on how you feel about wiping your ass left handed all summer while watching your brother ski". I baby it, and it's still hanging on 2 years later. Baller skiinxs Posted May 9, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 9, 2011 PRP, Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy. It has done wonders for my right elbow. Getting it done to a tendon tear in my left ankle and my right shoulder tomorrow. Dave
