Baller kylecarey Posted April 19, 2011 Baller Share Posted April 19, 2011 I am a left foot forward skier and have always held the handle with my left palm up. From what I have read it seems that I am backwards from most people. I am a 15' off skier learning the Course and want to take my skiing to the next level. I have tried switching my hands the other way but am not comfortable With it. My question is, do I change the way I ski even though it is not comfortable? Or continue with what is working? What are the advantages? Thanks. Kyle
Nick Sullivan
Hey Kyle, Make the change! This was hard for me to do but I did it and it helped my offside turn alot. I had to laugh at your post, I think I posted the same exact thing almost exactly a year ago.
Baller MattP Posted April 19, 2011 Baller Share Posted April 19, 2011 I made the change at one point. It felt weird for about 3 or 4 sets but after that I stopped thinking about it then it felt natural. Just give it time.
Baller kylecarey Posted April 19, 2011 Author Baller Share Posted April 19, 2011 Thanks for the advise. Ill give it a try if the weather here in the northwest will ever get consistent enough to take the boat out of the garage. Kyle

Baller davemac Posted April 19, 2011 Baller Share Posted April 19, 2011 Like Sully, I made the change last year. I found it easiest to make the change at the beginning of the season. Fasten a ski handle to a wall or post in your garage, basement, etc. Simulate skiing w/ handle release as much as possible before you ski, or whenever you can. It will help establish some muscle memory, and help you adapt more quickly.
bmiller3536
I made the change last fall and have not looked back. It took a few sets to stop thinking about it but I feel it has helped my offside turn and I can keep my shoulders more open to the boat going to 1,3,5. With my right palm down I had a tendency to overload going into 1,3,5 and it brought me into the the buoy with excess speed.
Baller Ed_Johnson Posted April 21, 2011 Baller Share Posted April 21, 2011 If your skiing old school style, shoulders closed to the boat, then it makes a big difference. If you ski more New School style, shoulders open to the boat, Center of Mass more open, I don't believe it makes much difference at all.
FischersYearRound
I'd venture to guess that most LFF are right handed. If you're right handed, then think holding the handle like a baseball bat.
