bmiller3536
I have been riding the ski for about 3 months now and my initial reaction was WOW what a slow ski and it took ALOT of effort to ride. After 4 passes I would be dead tired and felt like I skied 8 passes. So I started jacking with the fin and binding position. I struggled with this for a few weeks and about a month ago decided I was done messing around and decided its time for a new ski. I jumped on the old RCX and it was like I never missed a beat. Over the weekend I decided to try the X7 again (not sure why), Stil the same ski. Then for whatever reason I decided to take the wing downfrom 7 degrees to about 3 degrees just see what would happen.....WOW what a difference, I skied 6 sets this weekend and missed one buoy. That is right 215 out of 216 buoys. I am a believer now this ski has some serious potentialHas anyone else had any similar results?
Baller scoke Posted January 31, 2011 Baller Share Posted January 31, 2011 Good review. What happens if you aren't skiing in a drysuit to slow you down?? ;)
bmiller3536
I guess we will find out in the Spring. I would imagine I would just increase the wing a degree or two if I found the ski to be too fast
Baller disland Posted January 31, 2011 Baller Share Posted January 31, 2011 I would be interested in you trying a schnitz mini wing at 7 degrees or one of Chets ventral wings mounted like he suggests, to see how you liked it.
Old MS Accout
Isnt 3 going backwards?
Baller MAD11 Posted January 31, 2011 Baller Share Posted January 31, 2011 bmiller, What ski size and numbers are you running?Marc
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted January 31, 2011 Baller_ Share Posted January 31, 2011 I tried that ski last year and found it real slow and did not like the be real patient in the turn. Skied about 10 sets figeting with and with out wing. Needless to say it was not a ski for me and I went back to the SixAm. I Will try a Radar this spring. Baller MAD11 Posted January 31, 2011 Baller Share Posted January 31, 2011 I'm not feeling any of that. Right now 200lbs on a 67. Seems as fast as my old 9800's. Not running the factory published numbers though. I agree may feel slow there. With those settings way too much fin and boots too far forward for me. Baller MrJones Posted February 1, 2011 Baller Share Posted February 1, 2011 Brad, I would suggest just taking it off. I have always heard that too little angle makes the ski act weird. When I skied with Will he told me that he thought things started to get funny below 7deg. (Of course if you like it and ski well with it who cares what anybody thinks!) The other thought is to try MAD11's numbers. I don't like Goode's with their shallow numbers, but love it deeper/shorter. I don't know how you guys can tell anything in cold water anyway!!! bmiller3536
I am riding a 66" @ 58K...175 lbsI started with the factory settings but shortened it and shallowed it . The last time I measured here are the settings. Length 6.91Depth 2.505DFT (flat) .74Bindings 29.5 I was talking to Chad B. and he seemed to think Nate was riding a 67" @ 160 lbs and 58k? any confirmation on that? clemsondave
I have not tried the X7, but I'm sure it is similar to my '06X5. Try the slot fin with his Schnitz's stock numbers. Made a huge difference on my X5. Evened out both turns and sped it up quite a bit.
Baller MAD11 Posted February 4, 2011 Baller Share Posted February 4, 2011 I will refine these as I go. Going to ski the X7 in SA next weekend in warm water.67" skiBoots front 29 1/4 rear 17 1/8 from tailFin:Lenght- 6.902Depth- 2.497DFT- .764 slot caliperDFT- .745 standard caliperwing 7 degreesFeel like I need to keep moving the fin forward. Only skied it in a tournament one round with these current numbers. Will ski a few practice sets there and then adjust.
Baller ForrestGump Posted February 4, 2011 Baller Share Posted February 4, 2011 That's considerably less length and depth than D3 says the stock numbers should be. And 3/4" back on the bindings.
Baller MAD11 Posted February 4, 2011 Baller Share Posted February 4, 2011 Yes, the 30" for bindings just didn't work. I will always tend to be 1/4 back from stock. 29 1/2 seems like a good place to start. The X7 numbers are still a work in progress. Once I get the DFT right I will try to go as deep with the fin as possible.
bmiller3536
The D3 numbers did not work at all for me. They had the lenght at 6.93. On the edge change the tip would engage and take me straight at the buoy. I will try no wing this weekend and report back. That is if the lake is not frozen over, the weather in Dallas is rediculous
