Baller ral Posted January 24, 2011 Baller Share Posted January 24, 2011 Anyone knows? Jody Seal, where are you????
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted January 24, 2011 Baller_ Share Posted January 24, 2011 Why do you need a diagnostic tool? e-mail me with the problem. I utilize Rinda technologys Diacom. As for using OBDII could not say but I doubt it can be utilized. Not very often is their a problem that requires a scan tool.
Baller ral Posted January 24, 2011 Author Baller Share Posted January 24, 2011 Our engine ran low in oil (the guy in charge of the oil change did not put enough). So the check engine light went off, and now, even though we refilled it, it is still on. Everything else is working perfectly, but the light won't come off. There is no official service here, and the only boat shop that has a cable and diagnostic software is overbooked, does not go on site and can give us a slot in the shop in 8 more days. So we want to have one just to avoid driving 150 km towing the boat and pay US$ 100 to just reset a light, and we want to know what is going on if we have the check engine light going off in the future as well. Baller eleeski Posted January 24, 2011 Baller Share Posted January 24, 2011 Disconnect the battery. This resets the computer. If the problem is a transient issue, this will clear the memory and get rid of the light. Of course, if you want to know what happened, this hides the problem. But if the problem is real, the light will come on again. The real problem is that all your radio presets will be lost.Eric
Baller ral Posted January 25, 2011 Author Baller Share Posted January 25, 2011 I tried it but did not clear the light. I read, though, that newer engines have a capacitor that allows the computer data to be saved for a few hours. The recommendation was to disconnect the battery and push the horn button to empty the capacitor. Will try this today.Do not have radio, so the only thing I will lose is the ZO slalom warning time... kona
I believe you will need a MEFI 5 tool. Dont think a OBDII will work with marine engines. Try planetnautique.com PCM is all those guys deal with. Or try mefi4.com This is what I use on my PCM ZR6. You will not be able to reset the code by disconnecting the battery. Good luck. Baller ral Posted January 25, 2011 Author Baller Share Posted January 25, 2011 Thanks. Looks like Diacom/mefi is what needs to be used. A question, just for my short term piece of mind. Oil low level should have triggered the check engine light, right?
clemsondave
Yes, but I believe it will go away after X number of restarts. Jody can confirm. There is no ODBii connection. edit: just pulled this from the manualCanceling System AlarmsTo manually cancel system warning messages, simultaneously pressboth up and down on the tachometer. This will disable the warningmessage temporarily. If the problem is not corrected in one minute, the warning will be displayed again. The operator can cancel asoften as needed. Baller ral Posted January 25, 2011 Author Baller Share Posted January 25, 2011 I do not think I have buttons in my tachometer. I guess they come in the LE package only...
Baller skier2788 Posted January 25, 2011 Baller Share Posted January 25, 2011 I only know automobiles but in order to discharge the capacitor the easiest way is to take both cables off the battery and just touch them together instant discharge and will clear all memory. Thats the easiest way without a scan tool. An auomobile will keep the light on after the fix usually for about four warm up cycles but it can stay in the memory for up to forty. I dont know how boat pcms work. I know they are different from OBDII we use. Besides all OBDII has a standard 16 pin connector I have no idea how you would connect to a boat. Baller ForrestGump Posted January 30, 2011 Baller Share Posted January 30, 2011 You need Diacom Marine and the 94029 adapter. On PCM engines there is no OBD2 port. The Diacom adapter plugs into the CAN bus. Diacom part # 94030 is a kit that includes the sw, usb cable, and the 94029 adapter for $875.
Baller ral Posted January 30, 2011 Author Baller Share Posted January 30, 2011 Thanks for all the valuable info. I have one thing bugging my mind , though. The following cable allows getting into the CAN bus: http://www.cancapture.com/ecom.html To me, it looks AWFULLY SIMILAR to the ZO update cable. Is the ZO update cable a reduced functionaliy version of the cable in the link, or is it the same cable?
