Members ktm300
I am trying to make a block caliper and intend to attempt to epoxy a piece of 1/2 aluminum bar stock to the stainless caliper. Can any epoxy really adhere to the slick stainless ? I will try and score it up a bit with a dremel. Thanks for the suggestions.
Thomas Wayne
Forget the epoxy and use a very thin, high-quality double-stick tape. You can find this at any well-stocked trophy shop. Make sure the aluminum piece is also baby-butt smooth on the bonding surface.TW
Steven
What's a "Block Caliper"? If you're trying to make a "Slot Caliper", just take yours to your local machine shop and have them use an end mill to cut the slot you desire.
Thomas Wayne
Actually, if you do take it to a machine shop they almost certainly will use a "slitting saw", not an end mill. However, at typical shop rates I don't think you'll save any money over just buying it from the inventor (or one of his distributors), and you'll be demonstrating a higher level of integrity (IMO).TWhttp://www.slotcaliper.com/
Steven
I have to agree with you on this one TW, forget my comment from before, support your fellow skier!!!! My bad.
Baller Roger Posted July 29, 2010 Baller Share Posted July 29, 2010 The local machine shop that slotted my ski partner's calipers used neither of those tools, but rather used his EDM machine to cut the slot. Cost was $50.00.I agree with TW and Steven though, just buy the slot caliper (as I did).
Members ktm300
Thanks all. I need and am making a block caliper because a friend sent me a Warp to try and the tail slopes up in the back like an America's Cup boat such that accurate measurement is nearly impossible unless the caliper can contact the top edge of the back of the ski. Thanks TW. I have some trophy shop provided double sided tape and will give it a try this p.m.
