I work in the airline industry and my feeling is that Oil above 120 a barrel will really put the crimps on cheap fares. On top of that, most of the airlines are now charging 50.00 RT for checking that second bag. Pretty tough to go somewhere and hold it to 1 bag under 50lbs.

If you drive, you will go broke and you need another day or 2 of VAC. Toss in the price hike for a nice hotel, (non rat infested) tourney fees and the like and you have the price of a new Monza.

MS - you bring up a painful subject for those of us who scheduled (and priced) our tournaments back in November / December time frame.  If the price continues to rise, it will have a dramatic impact on tournament revenues.  I know some sites are considering a "fuel surcharge" for each entry.  At this point, my tournament if full but I would consider going to 2 rounds and lower the price $10 for each event rather than instituting a surcharge.

As a side note, by driving my daughter's Honda Civic to Ski Ranch later this month instead of my SS, it will save $60 in fuel costs.  That's almost an entry fee!  I also see this impacting Nationals.  Many of us who are "contributors" (i.e. don't stand a chance at the podium) may pass on this one.  This will have a trickle-down impact on Regional tournaments as well.

I live about 1.5 hours from the mainstream twin cities waterskiers. I have a June 21, 3 round slalom tourney that we traditionaly get filled up very early. So far I only have 3 entries. If I cant get my sanction fees and gas covered, I will have to bag it. strange thing is, 1 of my 3 entries is from Winnipeg, Canada. They have a strong dollar up there now.
