Goode is promoting the new Ventura as "Every Skier’s Ski." Contrary to the industry norm of overstating the capabilities of "mid-range" skis, Goode may be understating the Ventura's capabilities. The Ventura is a highly capable shortline ski for 34 mph or any speed.

The difference in capability between the Ventura and the 9970 or the XTR Team is reminiscent of the offerings of a famous German sports car company. The XTR Team and the 9970 are like a manual transmission, rear-wheel drive, turbocharged beast that, in the hands of a very skilled driver, can lap the Nürburgring at insane speeds. The Ventura, on the other hand, is like the non-turbo, automatic transmission version of that car, making a less skilled driver look like a hero.

The Ventura is not unusually fast or slow, but it maintains speed well and requires only moderate physical effort in the slalom course. All slalom skis are always either accelerating or decelerating; with the Ventura, these speed changes are less distinct. This ski's ability to glide is especially noticeable during the gate pullout, where I had to adjust my timing more than normal.

    Wakes to the Ball
If a “mid-range” category exists, these skis are typically more stable in terms of roll compared to "top of the line" skis. The Ventura certainly fits this description. The additional roll stability makes it easier for the skier to manage their connection and control their path out to the ball. Some elite skiers prefer a ski that rolls out more freely, but this requires more skill.

    Turns
If you've been reading BallOfSpray reviews for a few years, you're familiar with the clichés about getting on your front foot and maintaining proper skiing position at the ball. The Ventura is not a magic ski that allows the skier to totally forgo proper technique, but it is unusually forgiving at the ball on both sides. If the skier has just a little patience at apex, the Ventura will create substantial angle.

    Conclusion
The Ventura is easy on the skier's body and comfortable to ride. This is a very good ski that will appeal to skiers of a wide range of skill levels. The Ventura is one of the least temperamental skis reviewed to date. It is likely best suited for 34 or slower skiers. At a price of $1,490, I expect the Ventura to sell like hotcakes.
