This off-season in between our gym sessions and travel, Breanne and I decided to explore a bit of what Canada has to offer while we were in Vancouver for Christmas. Normally we are so caught up in our crazy schedules that we don’t take the time to enjoy the amazing places that we get to travel to.

We started off our adventure with a trip up to Whistler BC with Breanne, her brother Bryce and his girlfriend Alicia. His Jacked up Ford F350’s viewing platform made the wild mountain drive an interesting one.

Upon arrival to Whistler (site of the Olympic Games ) we checked into the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, and proceeded to chill and enjoy ourselves. We spent a few days ripping the slopes, checking out the Olympic slide sport venues and relaxing in the outdoor hot pools.

Check out Breanne and her stoke towards the Olympics. I had to talk her out of being a Bobsled girl.

I think I have the legs to be a pusher…but seriously, Waterskiing is way cooler!

Soooooo what have the Dodd's been up to in the last few months, and what is next for us? PDF Print E-mail

It's been a pretty crazy few months ( and YEAR!!!! )  thats for sure.

Photos by Marc Harmon

What is UP?
I would like to start off by saying that I am back on the water, and back on the ramp! I hit the jump for the first time since my injury this November, and it was one of the best moments of my life! The feeling of getting back on the water, and flying again is like nothing I have ever experienced! No roller-coaster, video game, or night out on the town can touch Flying through the air with some massive Goodman's strapped to your feet! I couldn't have made it through this recovery without my amazing wife Breanne, my friends, family, sponsors, fans and last but not least Waterski Canada! I thank you all for supporting me, and standing by me! "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger," and in my situation I promise stronger and even more important smarter.

In the last month alone, we have had some pretty good times, and been training very hard. We had our annual fitness testing for Waterski Canada at the Olympic Training Center in Calgary Canada, and we have also put together an amazing gym in our training facility in Florida. We are so lucky to have an Olympic quality support staff, training center and some other neat perks to keep us on track! Being Canadian ROCKS!

We have had lots of other things on the go as well, not just all business... Last week we went on an amazing cruise with a few of our good friends from  school in Louisanna. It was a blast. We had a week at sea on the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the seas!
Check this bad boy out:

If anyone wants to go for a big time boat ride or a killer holiday, give Breanne or myself a shout. Breanne isn't just a pretty face on an A-2 behind a MasterCraft, she is also a travel agent specializing in Cruise Vacations :) :) Hint Hint..... That was not a plug for her by the way hahaa.

Just yesterday I was lucky enough to finally take advantage of my November Birthday Present. Breanne got us tickets to the Tampa Bay Lightning/ Calgary Flames Hockey game. It was sweet. It brought back a lot of memories of playing hockey as a kid. Remember, I am Canadian, Hockey was my life!

Next?
Look for Breanne to take a good run at the Moomba title on her 2012 HO A-2, and look for a come back from myself.... the rest is top secret!

Other than that, while half of the lakes are frozen in the North America, look into some new Gear for 2012!

Breanne and Ryan Dodd’s “Rat-hole” Ski Camp! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Ryan Dodd

This Summer Breanne and I took a little trip up north to Saskatoon Saskatchewan for a week of fun out at the Rat-Hole (aka Saskatoon Waterski Club Facility)! The ski club has been around for ages, and has been going through a little bit of a make-over. From the 2 - jump setup with disabled skiing capabilities; to the new MasterCraft Prostar 197, and the dead straight slalom course, this place was looking great. They even brought in a little bit of beach sand to spruce the place up for the summer.

The cool part about the Saskatoon Waterski Club is that they are located right in the heart of Saskatoon. Club Members have the ability to turn a lunch break into a ski session, or a drive home from into a quick jump set opportunity.

The Edwards family hosted us for the week, and I was 100% impressed with the hospitality!  The food was amazing, and the weather was great! All 3 of the boys loved skiing more than I had seen in years, and Jeff, the father was as pumped to take a rip at the ramp as anyone these days. That’s what I like to see.

Breanne and I really enjoyed seeing so many family’s skiing together and having fun out on the lake. None of the club members were too serious…. I didn’t see any fin adjustments which I LOVED, and we also didn’t have any major injuries which was awesome! When you go up north in Canada, you have to understand the mentality….we have such a short season and passion for the sport, that the term “all or nothing,” quickly becomes reality! Why not go for that extra ball. Why pass up on the ramp. Why not do an extra 4 passes when I’m tired? Ahahah, that’s Canada. That is one of the reasons we learn so fast, but also the same reason you see some crazy crashes!

World Ski Fly Tour In the Media! WSFT PDF Print E-mail
Written by Ryan Dodd

The Rocketman Night Jump at Ski Fluid is coming up this October 8th. The World Ski Fly Tour Finals are going to be a blast. The Tour Champion is going to be wearing the Pit Bull Energy Bar WSFT title belt for the remainder of 2011!

We have been having a lot of success with the media in Florida. So far we have had TV coverage twice, 4 radio shows, and a nice little article in Waterski

Magazine on the event/tour finally. Florida is known world-wide as the watersports capital of the world, and I think that is part of the reason why people are paying so much attention to this action packed event. They see waterskiing as 100% cypress gardens style. We are changing that perception. I am not saying that isn’t cool; I am saying that isn’t us!

First of all, if you are going to night jump you have two have a few qualities…

-1. Ability to 100% block out FEAR….. It’s infectious, and it needs to be eliminated before you strap on the long boards!
-2. Love flying more than anything in the world. You need to be willing to accept reality, if something ends up going wrong.
-3. Be able to combine Passion, Rage, and Calm into one special emotion that equals a massive jump!

Now onto the good stuff.

Coming up this week, I have a few more Radio shows.  For starters this Thursday at 5:45 on www.Wlfk.com that’s wlfk am. Then we have 3 Pit Bull and 7-Eleven autograph session where I will be giving away signed Honu shirts, MasterCraft Rewind DVD’s, and playing some loud music through my Kicker system! John Mommer will be shooting the events, and I heard we may even have some bikini girls out to help bring some attention to the scene! Friday morning WTVT-TV (FOX) are coming out to Ski Fluid to tape some action and put together a cool segment to help promote the Rocketman event. After that we have a few more radio shows, and most likely one of the coolest events ever! Come out to the event. See some Bikini babes, enjoy some Buffalo Wild Wings food and beverage, and get a taste of what Night Flying is all about.

Breanne Dodd’s Version of the 2011 World Championships. PDF Print E-mail

After a big training week in Italy, team Canada headed off to Russia for the big event. My first reaction when I got to Russia was wow, what did I get myself into…. It started with our looooooooong bus ride to the hotel. Normally a 90km trip takes just over an hour, but this one from the Moscow Airport to the Dubna Hotel ended up taking 3 hours! As we swerved our way through the STOP and GO traffic the anticipation of what our week in Dubna would consist of began to build. The moment we arrived in Dubna, is one I will never forget.  When we drove by our hotel, I remember saying "look at that place." Trent’s response was "i don’t want to end up there on banquet night!" That’s when the bus did a u-turn and pulled into the driveway and said...THIS IS YOUR HOTEL!!! Oh my….. All I can remember, was thinking….. this is a Hotel???   And where can I find the Star Rating on this place. hahaha  Remember I am a travel agent, so I pay a bit of attention to these things normally!

Overall the hotel was good. Just a bit scary on the outside…..A good way to put it was, it had very unique décor.

The people from Dubna were friendly and the food was great! The local coffee shop even had free wifi and would give me a smiley face on my coffee. I loved it!

I didn’t make it to Dubna for any of the world cup stops, but had heard some stories about the interesting weather patterns in the city. I guess at some of the past World Cups, you would have a crazy wind one day, and perfect calm the next. We were fortunate that the weather was beautiful and the conditions were spectacular.

The site was a touch rolly, but nothing to worry about. I knew I had to ski aggressive. You only get one shot at these things, and the Worlds only come’s up every two years. I ran 3.5@ 38 in the finals which placed me fourth. This was really exciting for me as I was very close to my goal of a Medal….After a 6th in Calgary I know I’m on the right track for the 2013 Worlds!
